How common is IBD?
- An estimated 3.1 million adults (1.3%) in the United States have been diagnosed with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), which includes Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis.
- New findings from a CDC study using data from the 2015 and 2016 National Health Interview Survey show that adults with IBD are more likely to have other chronic conditions than those without IBD.
- Because many chronic conditions are more common among adults with IBD, disease management might involve clinical care from several types of health care providers.
